Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe, bordered by the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, and Poland. The area of modern-day Slovakia has been inhabited since the Neolithic era, with various tribes and kingdoms ruling the region throughout history. In the 10th century, the Kingdom of Hungary annexed the territory, leading to centuries of Hungarian rule. Slovakia became part of Czechoslovakia after World War I, gaining independence in 1993 following the peaceful dissolution of the country. Since then, Slovakia has transitioned towards a market economy and joined the European Union in 2004. The country is known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and historical landmarks such as Bratislava Castle and Spiš Castle.
