Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) was a world-renowned Indian poet, writer, philosopher, and artist who played a key role in the Bengal Renaissance. He was the first Asian to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his masterpiece Gitanjali. Tagore's contributions spanned poetry, music, education, and art. He composed India’s national anthem (Jana Gana Mana) and also inspired Sri Lanka’s (Namo Namo Matha). A strong advocate of peace, freedom, and cultural unity, Tagore founded Visva-Bharati University to promote global learning. His legacy lives on as a symbol of creativity, humanism, and intellectual brilliance.
