The 2012 ICC T20 World Cup concluded with West Indies winning the men’s championship, securing their second title in the tournament’s history. Officially known as the ICC World Twenty20 2012, the event was held in Sri Lanka from 18 September to 7 October 2012, with 12 international teams competing. The final took place on 7 October 2012 at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Hosts Sri Lanka national cricket team batted first and were bowled out for 137 runs. In response, the West Indies national cricket team reached the target in 19.4 overs, winning by 36 runs via the Duckworth–Lewis method after rain interrupted play during the chase. West Indies’ innings was anchored by Marlon Samuels, who scored 78 runs off 56 balls, earning the Player of the Match award. His innings included timely boundaries and sustained scoring through the middle overs. Earlier in the tournament, West Indies also recorded a notable victory over Australia in the semifinals, winning by 74 runs, one of the largest margins in ICC T20 World Cup knockout history.
