India won its second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, held from 1 to 29 June 2024. The tournament was jointly hosted by the United States and the West Indies, marking the first time matches in a men’s Cricket World Cup event were played in the USA. A total of 20 teams participated, the largest field in the tournament’s history. The final was played on 29 June 2024 at the Kensington Oval. India national cricket team batted first and posted 176 for 7 in their 20 overs. In response, South Africa national cricket team finished on 169 for 8, giving India a 7-run victory in a closely contested final. India’s innings was anchored by Virat Kohli, who scored 76 runs and was named Player of the Match. South Africa appeared well placed during the chase before late overs swung in India’s favor, with key contributions from India’s pace bowlers in the closing stages restricting the scoring. The match concluded with India successfully defending their total despite sustained pressure. With this result, India secured its second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title, having previously won the inaugural edition in 2007. The victory also ended a long wait for an ICC men’s title for India, following their last global triumph at the 2013 Champions Trophy.
