Australia won its first ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, which was played from 17 October to 14 November 2021. The tournament was staged in the United Arab Emirates and Oman after being postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 16 teams competed across the event.
The final was held on 14 November 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. New Zealand national cricket team batted first and posted 172 for 4 in 20 overs. In reply, the Australia national cricket team chased the target efficiently, reaching 173 for 2 in 18.5 overs to secure an 8-wicket victory.
Australia’s run chase was anchored by Mitchell Marsh, who scored an unbeaten 77 off 50 balls and was named Player of the Match. He shared a decisive 92-run partnership with David Warner, who made 53 runs. Warner finished the tournament as Australia’s highest run-scorer and was later awarded Player of the Tournament.
The victory marked Australia’s first T20 World Cup title, completing their collection of major ICC men’s trophies. It was also Australia’s first appearance in a men’s T20 World Cup final, concluding the tournament with Australia lifting the trophy for the first time.
