England became the first new men’s champion in ICC T20 World Cup history by winning the ICC World Twenty20 2010, held in the West Indies from 30 April to 16 May 2010. The tournament was the third edition of the ICC’s Twenty20 world championship and featured 12 international teams competing across Caribbean venues.
The final was played on 16 May 2010 at Kensington Oval, where England national cricket team faced Australia national cricket team. Australia batted first and were dismissed for 147 runs. England chased the target successfully, winning by 7 wickets with 18 balls remaining, completing the chase at 148 for 3.
England’s batting performance in the final was led by Kevin Pietersen, who scored 47 runs and anchored the run chase. Earlier in the tournament, Pietersen played a key role in the semifinal against Pakistan, contributing 73 runs in a successful chase. England’s bowling unit, including disciplined spells throughout the competition, helped restrict opposing teams and maintain control in knockout matches.
With this victory, England became the first men’s team other than India or Pakistan to win the ICC T20 World Cup, following India’s title in 2007 and Pakistan’s win in 2009. England finished the tournament unbeaten, winning all their matches. The event concluded with England lifting their first ICC global title in men’s cricket.
