The 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup was held in India from 5 October to 19 November 2023, bringing together ten national teams for the 13th edition of the tournament. Organized by the International Cricket Council, the event followed a round-robin league format, with each team playing the others once before the knockout stage. Matches were staged across multiple Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Dharamshala, and Pune. India entered the tournament as host nation and went unbeaten through the group stage and semifinals. The top four teams at the end of the league phase were India, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. In the semifinals, India defeated New Zealand in Mumbai, while Australia overcame South Africa in Kolkata to set up a final between India and Australia. The final was played on 19 November 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India, batting first, were bowled out for 240 runs in 50 overs. Australia successfully chased the target, reaching 241 for 4 in 43 overs, winning the match by six wickets. Australian opener Travis Head scored 137 runs, anchoring the chase and earning the Player of the Match award. With this victory, Australia men's national cricket team secured their sixth ODI World Cup title, adding to their previous wins in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. India, despite winning all their matches before the final, finished as runners-up. The tournament concluded with Australia lifting the World Cup trophy in front of a crowd exceeding 120,000 spectators, one of the largest attendances for a cricket match.
