On 08/06/2017, Microsoft announced an agreement to acquire Hexadite, a cybersecurity startup focused on artificial intelligence and automated incident response. Microsoft did not disclose the financial terms, though reports from financial outlets valued the deal at approximately $100 million. The acquisition was intended to enhance Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection by adding automated investigation and remediation capabilities powered by machine learning. Hexadite developed an Automated Incident Response Solution designed to analyze alerts, investigate threats, and automatically take remediation actions that would otherwise require manual work by security analysts. The technology aimed to reduce response times and help organizations handle large volumes of security alerts more efficiently. Microsoft said the acquisition would strengthen its endpoint protection platform and expand automation within enterprise security operations. Founded in 2014, Hexadite was headquartered in Boston, with its primary research and development operations in Israel. Following the acquisition, the company’s technology and team were integrated into Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group. The move aligned with Microsoft’s broader investment in cybersecurity, which the company said exceeded $1 billion annually in research and development across security products and infrastructure.
