On 24/08/1995, Microsoft officially released Windows 95, introducing a new generation of its consumer operating system. The launch was accompanied by a large-scale marketing campaign reportedly valued at approximately $300 million, with promotional events held across multiple countries. Retail stores opened at midnight in several locations, and the release drew widespread public attention as Microsoft promoted the system to home and business users.
Windows 95 introduced a redesigned graphical interface that included the Start menu, taskbar, and desktop icons, features that became standard elements of later Windows versions. The operating system also added support for 32-bit applications, improved Plug and Play hardware detection, and integrated networking capabilities. Microsoft bundled Internet Explorer in later updates, expanding internet access within the platform. The system replaced Windows 3.x for many users and represented a shift toward more user-friendly personal computing.
The August 1995 release marked a major update to Microsoft’s operating system lineup and helped drive adoption of personal computers in homes and businesses. The launch campaign and new interface contributed to Windows 95 becoming one of the most widely recognized software releases of the decade.
