On 24/04/2015, Apple Inc. officially launched the first generation Apple Watch, marking the company’s entry into the wearable technology market. The device had been unveiled in September 2014 and became available following a pre order period that began on 10/04/2015. Apple released the watch in nine countries at launch, including the United States, United Kingdom, China, Japan, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and Hong Kong. The product introduced a new category for Apple focused on health tracking, notifications, and app integration with the iPhone. The first generation Apple Watch was offered in two case sizes, 38 mm and 42 mm, and three collections differentiated by materials. The Apple Watch Sport featured a lightweight anodized aluminum case in silver or space gray, Ion X strengthened glass, and a fluoroelastomer Sport Band. Pricing started at $349 for the 38 mm model and $399 for the 42 mm version. The mid tier Apple Watch collection used stainless steel cases with sapphire crystal displays and multiple band options, including Milanese Loop and Link Bracelet. Pricing for this version ranged from $549 to $1,099 depending on configuration. Apple also introduced interchangeable bands and digital crown navigation as key design elements. The watch supported notifications, fitness tracking, Apple Pay, and third party apps delivered through watchOS. The launch represented Apple’s first new hardware category since the iPad in 2010 and expanded the company’s ecosystem into wearable devices.
