On 02/04/2019, Apple Inc. confirmed that it had begun manufacturing the iPhone 7 in Bengaluru, India, at a facility operated by its Taiwanese manufacturing partner Wistron. The company stated that production had already started in early March 2019 before the public confirmation. The move expanded Apple’s local manufacturing footprint in India, where the company had previously assembled models such as the iPhone SE and iPhone 6s through contract partners. The iPhone 7 production took place at Wistron’s Narasapura facility near Bengaluru in the state of Karnataka. Local manufacturing allowed Apple to better align with India’s domestic production policies and reduce import duties applied to fully assembled devices. The decision also supported Apple’s broader strategy to increase manufacturing presence in India and improve availability of locally produced iPhones. The company indicated that the locally assembled iPhone 7 units would be supplied to the Indian market. Apple’s manufacturing expansion in India involved partnerships with suppliers including Wistron, Foxconn, and later Pegatron. The 2019 confirmation of iPhone 7 production followed earlier assembly efforts and preceded later increases in local iPhone manufacturing. The Bengaluru production represented another step in Apple’s gradual diversification of its manufacturing base beyond China.
