Chenggong's fleet, commanded by Zheng Chenggong, departed from Kinmen with approximately 25,000 soldiers and sailors. This military expedition aimed to challenge Dutch colonial presence in Taiwan. Upon arrival at Tayouan, Zheng's forces engaged in combat, successfully routing a contingent of 240 Dutch soldiers stationed at Baxemboy Island in the Bay of Taiwan. The fleet faced resistance from Dutch naval forces, which included several ships that attacked the Chinese junks. Despite suffering losses, including the destruction of some junks, the Dutch were ultimately unable to prevent Zheng's forces from advancing. This operation marked a critical phase in the struggle for control over Taiwan, highlighting the military capabilities of Zheng's fleet and the challenges posed by European colonial powers in the region.
