The renaming of Zeelandia and Provintia marked a significant shift in the administrative landscape of Taiwan under Koxinga's leadership. Koxinga, a Ming loyalist, renamed Zeelandia to Anping and Provintia to Chikan as part of his efforts to establish control over the region following the expulsion of the Dutch. This rebranding was not merely symbolic; it represented a broader strategy to assert Ming influence and governance in Taiwan. Chikan was later renamed 'Ming Eastern Capital' (Dongdu Mingjing) on May 29, reflecting its new status as a center of power. Subsequently, Zheng Jing, Koxinga's son, further renamed 'Eastern Capital' to Dongning, which translates to 'Eastern Pacification.' This change underscored the ongoing efforts to stabilize and integrate the region into the Ming loyalist framework. Alongside these renamings, the establishment of one prefecture and two counties, Tianxing and Wannian, was a crucial step in formalizing administrative control and promoting settlement in Taiwan.
