On 30/11/2015, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, began the South African leg of his official tour to Southern Africa with a series of engagements in Cape Town. The visit followed several days in Lesotho, where he had opened the Mamohato Children’s Centre for his charity Sentebale, which supports children and young people affected by HIV.
During his first day in South Africa, Prince Harry met Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu at the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation. On behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, he presented Archbishop Tutu with the Order of the Companions of Honour, recognizing his contribution to relations between the United Kingdom and South Africa. The meeting brought together two public figures associated with humanitarian work and social advocacy.
Prince Harry also visited a youth centre in Cape Town, where he engaged with young people participating in sports and leadership programmes. The visit highlighted the role of community-based initiatives in supporting youth development and providing opportunities for education and personal growth.
The engagements on 30 November marked the start of his activities in South Africa, combining diplomatic representation with a focus on social and community initiatives during his regional tour.
