Queen Elizabeth I (1533–1603), the last monarch of the Tudor dynasty, reigned over England for 44 transformative years. Born to King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth’s early life was fraught with uncertainty—declared illegitimate after her mother’s execution and navigating the dangerous politics of her half-siblings’ reigns. Yet she emerged as a shrewd and resilient leader, ascending the throne in 1558 and ushering in what would become known as the Elizabethan era. Her reign was marked by religious consolidation, as she re-established Protestantism and positioned herself as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
