Thomas Seymour's arrest and imprisonment in the Tower stemmed from serious allegations of conspiracy against his brother, Edward Seymour, the Duke of Somerset, who served as Protector for King Edward VI. The charges included plans to overthrow Somerset, arrange a marriage between Lady Jane Grey and the young king, and pursue a marriage with Elizabeth, the future queen. These actions were seen as a direct threat to the stability of the government and the monarchy, particularly given the political tensions of the time. Elizabeth, residing at Hatfield House, was interrogated regarding her involvement but maintained her silence, which frustrated her interrogators. Robert Tyrwhitt, one of the officials involved in the investigation, noted her refusal to provide any information, which only heightened suspicions surrounding the conspiratorial activities of Seymour.
