Microsoft released the Xbox 360 in North America, beginning the seventh generation of home video game consoles. The launch preceded the releases of Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii, giving Microsoft an early entry into the new console cycle. The Xbox 360 launched at two price points: the “Core System” at $299.99 and the “Premium” (later known as the Pro model) at $399.99, which included a 20GB hard drive, wireless controller, headset, and other accessories. The console featured a custom triple-core IBM PowerPC-based CPU and an ATI-designed graphics processor. It introduced a redesigned wireless controller and expanded integration with the Xbox Live online service, which supported multiplayer gaming, digital downloads, and marketplace content. Launch titles on 22/11/2005 included Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo: Elements of Power, and Call of Duty 2. Within its first 90 days on sale, Microsoft reported that more than 1.5 million units had been sold worldwide, despite supply shortages in several regions. The system later launched in Europe on 02/12/2005 and in Japan on 10/12/2005. Over its lifespan, the Xbox 360 sold more than 84 million units globally. The North American release on 22/11/2005 established Microsoft’s second-generation console platform and expanded its online gaming infrastructure during a competitive period in the mid-2000s. #Xbox360 #Microsoft #VideoGameHistory #2005 #GamingHistory
