Microsoft released the Xbox One in North America, Europe, Australia, and parts of Latin America. The launch marked Microsoft’s entry into the eighth generation of home consoles, following the Xbox 360.
The Xbox One launched in the United States at a retail price of $499 and was initially bundled with the redesigned Kinect motion-sensing camera. The system featured an AMD-based x86-64 processor and 8GB of DDR3 RAM, supporting high-definition graphics and multimedia integration. Microsoft positioned the console as an all-in-one entertainment system, incorporating HDMI pass-through, Blu-ray playback, and expanded online services through Xbox Live.
Launch titles on 22/11/2013 included Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Killer Instinct. Within the first 24 hours of release, Microsoft reported that more than one million Xbox One units were sold worldwide. The console later launched in Japan on 04/09/2014.
Over its production lifespan, the Xbox One family—including later revisions such as the Xbox One S and Xbox One X—sold tens of millions of units globally. The 22/11/2013 launch established Microsoft’s presence in the eighth console generation alongside Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Nintendo’s Wii U.
