On 01/10/2012, Arnold Schwarzenegger released his autobiography Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, published by Simon & Schuster. The book chronicled his life from his childhood in Austria to his careers in bodybuilding, Hollywood, and politics, including his tenure as the 38th Governor of California. Co written with Peter Petre, a former executive editor of Fortune magazine, the memoir combined personal recollections with behind the scenes accounts of his professional milestones and public life. The release was supported by an international media tour in October 2012. Schwarzenegger held promotional appearances including a press conference in Paris and a surprise book signing at McNally Jackson bookstore in New York City. The publicity campaign drew significant media coverage, particularly because the book addressed both his achievements and personal controversies that had surfaced following the end of his governorship. The book devoted substantial space to his bodybuilding career, with nearly 200 pages covering competitions, training philosophy, and his rise to Mr. Olympia titles. Additional sections documented his transition to Hollywood through films such as Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator, followed by his two terms as California governor from 2003 to 2011. A chapter titled “The Secret” addressed his extramarital affair and the revelation that he fathered a child with a household employee, an issue that contributed to his separation from Maria Shriver in 2011.
