On 20/04/2009, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered the opening keynote address at the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress in Detroit, Michigan. The 2009 conference was held under the theme “Racing to Green Mobility,” focusing on the development of environmentally sustainable transportation technologies. Schwarzenegger was invited to open the event in recognition of California’s environmental policies and his advocacy for reducing vehicle emissions and promoting cleaner automotive innovation.
During his remarks, Schwarzenegger emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and industry to accelerate the transition toward lower emission vehicles. He addressed the challenges facing automakers during a period of economic restructuring in the United States and expressed support for Detroit manufacturers working to develop cleaner technologies. His speech highlighted California’s regulatory efforts and encouraged investment in hybrid systems, electric vehicles, and alternative fuels.
Following the keynote, Schwarzenegger toured the exhibition floor, where he viewed several concept vehicles and emerging technologies. He sat in the driver’s seat of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and examined a plug in hybrid Hummer prototype developed by Raser Technologies, which aimed for an estimated 40 mile electric only range. The visit formed part of the broader conference program, which brought together engineers, executives, and policymakers to discuss the future of green mobility.
