Schwarzenegger opens 2009 SAE World Congress

The 2009 conference was held under the theme “Racing to Green Mobility,” focusing on the development of environmentally sustainable transportation technologies. Schwarzenegger was invited to open the event in recognition of California’s environmental policies and his advocacy for reducing vehicle emissions and promoting cleaner automotive innovation. During his remarks, Schwarzenegger emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and industry to accelerate the transition toward lower emission vehicles. He addressed the challenges facing automakers during a period of economic restructuring in the United States and expressed support for Detroit manufacturers working to develop cleaner technologies. He sat in the driver’s seat of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and examined a plug in hybrid Hummer prototype developed by Raser Technologies, which aimed for an estimated 40 mile electric only range.
