In December 2001, Arnold Schwarzenegger was hospitalized for four days following a motorcycle crash in Los Angeles that left him with six broken ribs. The accident occurred when a car traveling ahead of him suddenly braked, causing Schwarzenegger to collide with the vehicle’s rear fender. During the impact, his chest struck the motorcycle’s windshield, resulting in multiple rib fractures that required hospital treatment and observation. Schwarzenegger was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital, where he remained for approximately four days before being released. Reports at the time indicated that his injuries were painful but not life threatening. He later compared the pain from the broken ribs to his 1997 heart valve surgery, stating that the rib injuries were “much more painful than the heart surgery.” The crash temporarily halted his physical training and workout routine, with recovery expected to take around three months. The incident occurred during a period when Schwarzenegger remained active in film projects and public appearances. Despite the injuries, he resumed normal activities after recovery, though the accident highlighted the risks associated with motorcycle riding, which he was known to enjoy. No other serious injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
