In 2018, Arnold Schwarzenegger co-founded Ladder, a sports nutrition company, alongside NBA player LeBron James, supermodel Cindy Crawford, and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn. The company was established with a focus on producing high-quality, performance-oriented supplements that meet professional athletic standards. Its creation was partly inspired by an incident during Game 1 of the 2014 NBA Finals, when LeBron James experienced severe muscle cramping, prompting him and his trainer Mike Mancias to seek more reliable, clean supplement options. Ladder positioned itself around transparency and product quality, offering supplements that are NSF Certified for Sport®, a certification program that tests products for banned substances and label accuracy. By 2020, the company’s product line included pre-workout formulas, hydration mixes, whey protein, and plant-based protein powders. Schwarzenegger’s involvement reflected his long-standing interest in fitness, bodybuilding, and nutrition, and he emphasized the importance of making scientifically tested supplements available not only to elite athletes but also to the general public. In December 2020, Ladder underwent a significant business development when digital fitness platform Openfit acquired a majority stake in the company. Following the acquisition, Schwarzenegger and LeBron James retained minority ownership and continued to serve as active promoters of the brand. The deal integrated Ladder’s supplement offerings into Openfit’s broader digital fitness ecosystem, combining nutrition products with training programs and wellness content.
