Muhammad ibn Ziyad established the Ziyadid dynasty in Tihama, a region along the Red Sea coast. This dynasty extended its influence from Haly, located in present-day Saudi Arabia, to Aden. Although the Ziyadids nominally acknowledged the authority of the Abbasid Caliphate, they operated independently, with their capital situated in Zabid. The Ziyadid dynasty's governance was primarily limited to the coastal areas of Yemen, specifically the Tihama region, and they did not manage to exert control over the highlands or Hadramawt. The historical records regarding the Ziyadid dynasty are sparse, making it difficult to ascertain the full extent of their rule and influence. Their inability to dominate the interior regions of Yemen indicates the challenges they faced in consolidating power beyond the coastal strip they occupied.
