The Platform for Accelerating Circular Economy (PACE) was established as a global public-private partnership aimed at promoting and scaling innovations in the circular economy. This initiative is co-chaired by prominent leaders including Frans van Houten, the CEO of Philips, Naoko Ishii, the CEO of the Global Environment Facility, and a representative from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). PACE seeks to address the challenges of resource depletion and environmental degradation by fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, including businesses, governments, and non-profit organizations. The initiative emphasizes the importance of transitioning from a linear economy, which is based on a 'take-make-dispose' model, to a circular economy that focuses on sustainability and resource efficiency. PACE is supported by a diverse group of knowledge partners, including the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the International Resource Panel, and Circle Economy, among others. These organizations contribute expertise and research to help drive the circular economy agenda forward. Additionally, PACE receives backing from various governmental and corporate entities, such as the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, DSM, and Unilever. The collaboration aims to create a framework that encourages innovation, investment, and policy development in circular economy practices, ultimately leading to a more sustainable future. By leveraging the strengths of its partners, PACE aspires to accelerate the adoption of circular economy principles across different sectors, thereby contributing to global sustainability goals and reducing environmental impact.
