The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) was established as a global initiative aimed at combating epidemics and ensuring vaccine availability during health emergencies. Launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, CEPI focuses on securing vaccine supplies for pandemics and conducting research on vaccines for tropical diseases, which pose increasing threats to global health. The initiative is supported by a diverse group of private and governmental donors, reflecting a collaborative approach to epidemic preparedness. An initial investment of approximately US$460 million was made by several governments, including Germany, Japan, and Norway, alongside contributions from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust. This funding is crucial for CEPI's mission to develop vaccines rapidly and effectively in response to emerging infectious diseases, thereby enhancing global health security.
