Fort Provintia, a Dutch stronghold in Taiwan, surrendered to the forces of Zheng Chenggong after enduring a nine-month siege. This event marked a pivotal moment in the struggle for control over Taiwan, as Zheng's forces successfully captured the Dutch fortress Zeelandia, which allowed them to establish a significant base on the island. The Dutch had maintained a presence in Taiwan for several decades, but the fall of Fort Provintia signaled the beginning of the end for their colonial ambitions in the region. Following this defeat, the Dutch continued to resist at Keelung, but their hold on Taiwan weakened considerably. Ultimately, they withdrew from the island entirely, marking a shift in power dynamics in East Asia and paving the way for Zheng Chenggong's influence in the region.
