Procter & Gamble Recalls Rely Tampons

Procter & Gamble's Rely tampons were introduced as a super-absorbent product that utilized carboxymethylcellulose and compressed polyester beads for absorption. However, concerns regarding the safety of these tampons emerged when the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released a report detailing the link between certain tampon brands and Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). The report highlighted that Rely tampons were associated with TSS more than any other brand, raising alarms among health officials and consumers alike. This association was particularly troubling given the increasing number of TSS cases reported, many of which were connected to the use of super-absorbent synthetic tampons. The CDC's findings prompted Procter & Gamble to take immediate action to protect consumers and mitigate health risks.
