J.D. Vance is an American politician, author, venture capitalist, and Marine veteran, born on August 2, 1984. He has served as the junior United States senator from Ohio since 2023 and is the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee for the 2024 election. After serving as a military journalist in the Marine Corps from 2003 to 2007, Vance earned degrees from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. He briefly practiced as a corporate lawyer before transitioning to the tech industry as a venture capitalist. His 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, was adapted into a film in 2020.
