He has served as the junior United States senator from Ohio since 2023 and is the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee for the 2024 election. After serving as a military journalist in the Marine Corps from 2003 to 2007, Vance earned degrees from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. He briefly practiced as a corporate lawyer before transitioning to the tech industry as a venture capitalist. His 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, was adapted into a film in 2020.
