Threads was introduced as a companion app to Instagram, allowing users to log in using their existing Instagram credentials. The platform enabled posts of up to 500 characters, along with links, photos, and videos up to five minutes in length. At launch, Threads was available in more than 100 countries on iOS and Android. The rollout came amid changes at Twitter, which had been acquired by Elon Musk in October 2022. Meta positioned Threads as a space for public conversations, leveraging Instagram’s user base of more than two billion monthly active users to accelerate adoption. According to Meta, Threads reached 10 million sign-ups within the first seven hours of launch. By 10/07/2023, Mark Zuckerberg stated that the platform had surpassed 100 million users, making it one of the fastest-growing consumer applications at the time. Threads launched initially without certain features common to established microblogging platforms, such as a chronological feed and direct messaging, which were added or tested in later updates. The platform operates under Meta’s broader ecosystem and moderation policies. The 05/07/2023 launch marked Meta’s formal entry into the standalone text-based social media space linked directly to Instagram accounts. #Threads #Meta #Instagram #SocialMedia #TechNews
