LinkedIn was co-founded by Reid Hoffman along with Allen Blue, Konstantin Guericke, Eric Ly, and Jean-Luc Vaillant. The company was headquartered in Mountain View, California. Unlike earlier social networking sites that focused on personal relationships, LinkedIn centered on professional identity, employment history, and business connections. The platform allowed members to create profiles detailing their work experience, education, and skills. Users could connect with other professionals and expand their networks through first-, second-, and third-degree connections. Early features included recommendations, messaging, and job listings. Within its first month, LinkedIn reportedly attracted thousands of users, growing steadily through invitations and professional referrals. LinkedIn’s growth continued throughout the 2000s as businesses and recruiters began using the platform for hiring and professional outreach. In 2011, LinkedIn went public on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2016, it was acquired by Microsoft for $26.2 billion. The 05/05/2003 launch marked the introduction of a platform specifically designed for professional networking, distinguishing it from other early 2000s social media services focused primarily on personal interaction. #LinkedIn #ProfessionalNetworking #InternetHistory #ReidHoffman #TechHistory
