On 16/09/1983, Arnold Schwarzenegger was officially sworn in as a naturalized citizen of the United States during a ceremony held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. He took the oath of citizenship alongside approximately 2,000 other individuals representing various countries, completing the legal process required after years of residence in the United States. Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria in 1947, had moved to the United States in 1968 and built a career in bodybuilding and acting before obtaining citizenship. The naturalization ceremony required participants to take the Oath of Allegiance, formally renouncing prior national allegiances and committing to the responsibilities of U.S. citizenship. The event at the Shrine Auditorium was one of many large scale ceremonies conducted in Los Angeles during that period. Following his naturalization, Schwarzenegger continued his film career while also becoming more engaged in public and civic activities. His U.S. citizenship later enabled his entry into American politics, culminating in his election as Governor of California in 2003. The 16/09/1983 ceremony marked a formal milestone in his transition from Austrian born immigrant to U.S. citizen.
