On July 1, 2002, Apple announced the acquisition of Emagic, a leading developer of professional music production software, in a move to expand its presence in the creative and audio production market. Based in Hamburg, Germany, Emagic was best known for Logic, a powerful digital audio workstation used by more than 200,000 musicians worldwide. Following the acquisition, Emagic became a wholly owned division of Apple, reinforcing Apple’s long-standing commitment to creative professionals. At the time, over 65 percent of Emagic’s revenue came from Macintosh-based products, leading Apple to discontinue Emagic’s Windows software offerings by September 30, 2002. Apple executives praised Emagic for setting industry standards in music creation and expressed enthusiasm about integrating its talented team into Apple. The acquisition laid the foundation for Apple’s continued leadership in digital music production and later developments in professional audio software within the Mac ecosystem.
