In 2003, we operated a humanitarian relief flight to Basra, Iraq, transporting approximately 60 tonnes of medical supplies and a volunteer medical team to support people affected by the Iraq War. The operation took place during a period of significant disruption to essential services, when hospitals and medical facilities were facing urgent demands for equipment, medicines and professional assistance.
The flight used Virgin Atlantic's long-haul aviation capabilities to deliver medical aid directly to southern Iraq. Working alongside those involved in organising the relief effort, we helped transport essential supplies and medical personnel to an area where access to healthcare had been severely affected by the conflict.
The operation was a practical contribution to the humanitarian response in Iraq, using our aircraft and operational resources to support relief efforts beyond our normal passenger services.
