On 1 September 2017, we completed the introduction of onboard Wi-Fi across our entire fleet, enabling passengers to access the internet on all Virgin Atlantic aircraft. The rollout covered 39 aircraft, including our Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, Boeing 747-400s, Airbus A330s and Airbus A340-600s. It made us the first European airline to offer Wi-Fi connectivity throughout its long-haul fleet. The programme used satellite-based technology from Panasonic and Gogo, with different systems installed according to aircraft type. Passengers could connect their own devices at cruising altitude to send messages, browse websites, check emails and stay in touch during their journeys. Connectivity was available above 10,000 feet, from shortly after take-off until shortly before landing. Customers could choose from paid access packages according to their needs, including messaging-only options on certain aircraft and broader internet access packages. Prices ranged from £2.99 to £14.99, depending on the aircraft and package selected. Together with our joint venture partner Delta Air Lines, the rollout supported Wi-Fi availability on up to 39 daily transatlantic flights. Completing the programme was part of our wider investment in the onboard experience, extending internet access beyond selected aircraft and making connectivity a consistent feature of our long-haul service.
