A deadly bus crash in Uganda in 2025 killed at least 46 people and injured dozens more in one of the country’s worst road accidents in recent years. The collision occurred in the early hours of 22 October 2025 on the busy Kampala–Gulu Highway, near Kiryandongo district, when two passenger buses travelling in opposite directions attempted to overtake other vehicles and collided head‑on. Initial police reports gave a higher toll, but authorities later revised the figure to 46 after determining that some victims who were found unconscious at the scene were still alive.
Emergency services, including police and medical teams, responded quickly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals and securing the crash site. The highway — a major transport artery connecting Uganda’s capital with its northern regions — was disrupted as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause. Police warned that dangerous overtaking and reckless driving remain leading contributors to road fatalities in the country and called for motorists to exercise greater caution. The crash prompted national mourning, condolences from President Yoweri Museveni, and renewed calls from lawmakers for stricter enforcement of traffic safety measures to prevent similar tragedies on Uganda’s roads.
