Super Bowl LIX was the National Football League championship game for the 2024 season, played on February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The game matched the American Football Conference champion Kansas City Chiefs, seeking a third consecutive Super Bowl title, against the National Football Conference champion Philadelphia Eagles. It served as a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, contested two seasons earlier.
The Eagles won decisively, 40-22, controlling the game from the opening quarter. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP after accounting for three total touchdowns-two passing and one rushing-and rushing for 72 yards, setting a Super Bowl record for a quarterback. Philadelphia’s defense limited Kansas City to just 23 yards in the first half and did not allow a score until late in the third quarter. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was sacked six times and committed three turnovers, including a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown by rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean.
Kansas City entered the game with a 15-2 regular-season record and was making its seventh Super Bowl appearance, aiming to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Philadelphia finished the regular season 14-3, backed by the league’s top-ranked defense, and advanced to its fifth Super Bowl, earning the franchise’s second Super Bowl victory (following Super Bowl LII) and fifth NFL championship overall.
The game was televised in the United States by Fox and streamed for free on Tubi. It averaged 127.7 million viewers, making it the most-watched broadcast in U.S. television history at the time. The halftime show, headlined by Kendrick Lamar, drew more than 133 million viewers, setting a new record for a Super Bowl halftime performance. The event was also notable for being the first Super Bowl attended in person by a sitting U.S. president, Donald Trump.
