Alfonso the Emperor, also known as Alfonso VII of León and Castile, led a significant military campaign in Spain. In 1139, he laid siege to the Almoravid castle located at Colmenar de Oreja. The Almoravids were a Muslim dynasty that ruled parts of Moorish Iberia. This siege marked a critical moment in the Reconquista, which was the centuries-long campaign by Christian kingdoms to recapture the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. Alfonso's forces surrounded the castle, cutting off its access to supplies and reinforcements. After a strenuous battle, the defenders surrendered, granting Alfonso a significant victory. This triumph allowed him to expand his territories, further diminishing the power of the Almoravids in Spain. The Siege of Oreja demonstrated Alfonso's military prowess and contributed to the Reconquista's ultimate success. #SiegeOfOreja #AlfonsoVII #Reconquista #IberianPeninsula
