The 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket was held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 28 July to 5 August 2023, bringing together 12 of Africa’s top national women’s basketball teams in a showcase of continental competition. The tournament took place at the BK Arena, with nations competing through group stages and knockout rounds for continental honours and qualification opportunities. The championship highlighted the growing strength of women’s basketball across Africa, with competitive games, standout individual performances, and strong fan engagement throughout the event.
Nigeria’s D’Tigress emerged as champions, claiming their fourth consecutive AfroBasket title and sixth overall by defeating Senegal 84–74 in the final. Led by MVP Amy Okonkwo and an impressive roster, Nigeria continued its dominance in African women’s basketball, maintaining an unbeaten streak in the competition and underscoring its status as the continent’s top team. Mali secured third place, while host nation Rwanda finished fourth, celebrating historic results and growing interest in the sport at home. The 2023 Women’s AfroBasket not only crowned a champion but also reinforced the importance of women’s basketball development across the region.
