In 2015, Rwanda's tourism sector experienced remarkable growth, welcoming over a million tourists and generating tourism revenue that surpassed US$ 300 million. This significant increase in visitors can be attributed to several key attractions, with mountain gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park being the standout draw. As one of only three countries where visitors can safely observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, Rwanda has positioned itself as a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The government has implemented effective marketing strategies and initiatives to promote tourism, including investment in infrastructure and the promotion of cultural experiences. These efforts have not only enhanced the visitor experience but have also contributed to the sustainable development of the local economy. The growth in tourism revenue from just US$ 62 million in 2000 to US$ 303 million in 2014 underscores the success of these initiatives. As Rwanda continues to attract international tourists, the focus remains on preserving its unique wildlife and natural beauty while fostering economic growth through responsible tourism practices.
