In 1894, Robert Frost achieved a significant milestone in his literary career by selling his first poem, 'My Butterfly. An Elegy.' This poem was published in the November 8, 1894 edition of The Independent of New York for $15, which is equivalent to approximately $528 today when adjusted for inflation. This accomplishment filled Frost with pride, prompting him to propose to his beloved Elinor Miriam White. However, Elinor, who was focused on completing her education at St. Lawrence University, declined his proposal at that time. Following this, Frost took a reflective excursion to the Great Dismal Swamp in Virginia. Upon his return, he asked Elinor again, and having graduated, she accepted his proposal. The couple married on December 19, 1895, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. This period marked the beginning of both Frost's literary journey and his personal life with Elinor, who would become a significant influence in his life and work. #mooflife #mof #MomentOfLife #RobertFrost #MyButterflyAnElegy #PoetryHistory #LiteraryMilestones #MarriageProposal
