Robert Frost married Elinor Miriam White on 19/12/1895 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, beginning a partnership that would shape both his personal life and literary development. The two had known each other since attending Lawrence High School, where they graduated as co valedictorians in 1892. Following their marriage, the couple moved to various locations including Massachusetts and later New Hampshire, where Frost pursued farming while continuing to write poetry. Over the course of their marriage, Robert and Elinor Frost had six children: Elliot, Lesley, Carol, Irma, Marjorie, and Elinor Bettina.
The Frost family experienced repeated personal losses across several decades. Their first child, Elliot, died of cholera in 1900 at the age of four. Elinor Bettina died in 1907 shortly after birth. Marjorie died in 1934 following complications after childbirth, and Carol died by suicide in 1940. Frost’s wife Elinor died in 1938 after heart related complications. Two children, Lesley Frost Ballantine and Irma Frost, survived into adulthood, though Irma experienced long term mental health struggles. These events unfolded alongside Frost’s literary career and were documented in biographical accounts of his life.
