On 19/08/2021, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, announced a $1.5 million donation to Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. The funding was directed toward supporting vulnerable children and young people in southern Africa affected by HIV/AIDS, particularly in Lesotho and Botswana, where the organization has focused its programs for more than a decade. The donation was made through proceeds connected to Prince Harry’s memoir deal, with funds allocated to strengthen Sentebale’s ongoing work in health services, psychosocial support, and youth development. Sentebale, whose name means “forget-me-not” in Sesotho, has worked to address the long-term impact of HIV/AIDS on children and adolescents by providing access to care, education, and community-based support systems. At the time of the announcement, the COVID-19 pandemic had added further strain to healthcare and social services across the region, increasing the vulnerability of young people living with or affected by HIV. The additional funding was intended to help maintain continuity of care and expand support programs during this period of heightened need. Prince Harry has maintained an active role in Sentebale since its founding, regularly supporting its initiatives and fundraising efforts. The 19 August 2021 donation represented a continuation of that involvement, reinforcing the charity’s capacity to deliver services in communities facing ongoing public health challenges.
