Boris Johnson, born Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson on June 19, 1964, is a British politician, writer, and public figure known for his flamboyant personality and often controversial style. Educated at Eton College and later at Balliol College, Oxford, Johnson began his career as a journalist before entering politics. His distinctive wit, charisma, and sometimes chaotic energy quickly made him one of the most recognizable figures in British public life. He first became a Member of Parliament in 2001 and later gained national prominence as the Mayor of London (2008–2016), where he oversaw projects such as the 2012 Olympic Games and the introduction of the cycle hire scheme often nicknamed “Boris Bikes.” Johnson’s political career reached its peak when he became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in July 2019, leading the Conservative Party.
