On 10 April 2020, Good Friday, a major fire broke out at our KellyBronze processing facility in Essex. Twelve fire engines were called as flames engulfed the building. Our immediate concern was the turkeys housed in barns close to the fire, and fortunately no livestock were harmed. KellyBronze's own company history records the incident and the scale of the emergency response. The fire was particularly difficult for the business because the same processing facility had suffered a major blaze five years earlier. In June 2015, a fire caused extensive damage to the processing plant; contemporary reporting described crews being withdrawn as the burning building became at risk of collapse. The facility was subsequently rebuilt, with a replacement processing plant operational in time for that year's Christmas production. The 2020 incident therefore meant dealing with a serious fire at a facility that had already required substantial rebuilding. While the company records the successful protection of the birds during the second fire, available sources do not provide a sufficiently detailed independent account of the cause or full financial impact, so those details are not stated here.
