In 1992, as demand for KellyBronze turkeys was growing, we purchased a redundant dairy farm to give the business more room to develop its Christmas turkey operation. The acquisition followed our move into free-range production in 1991 and provided the space needed as the business expanded. KellyBronze’s official history describes the former dairy farm as becoming the “hearth” of its Christmas turkey operation. There is some uncertainty over the precise date. Our current company timeline places the purchase in 1992, while a 2025 account in Forbes, based partly on interviews with Paul Kelly, dates the acquisition to 1987 and reports that the property included farm buildings and five acres of grassland, allowing the family to expand breeding and develop a small processing facility. Given that discrepancy, 1992 is used here because it is the date stated in KellyBronze’s official chronology, while the conflicting independent account should be noted when maintaining the historical record.
