In 2012, Paul Kelly received an honorary doctorate from the University of Essex in recognition of his contribution to the turkey industry and his work developing the family business. The award recognised his role in specialist turkey breeding and production, including the development of KellyBronze as a premium traditional turkey produced using methods that differed from much of the mainstream market.
Paul received the honorary degree at a University of Essex graduation ceremony. The university's Chancellor at the time, horticulturist and broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh, presided over the ceremony. For the Kelly family, the recognition reflected decades of work in turkey breeding and production and Paul's role in taking that work forward through KellyBronze.
