Derek and Mollie Kelly Appear on The Generation Game

In 1981, Derek and Mollie Kelly made their television debut on the BBC’s The Generation Game. During their appearance, they demonstrated how to truss a turkey, bringing a practical skill from our family’s poultry business to one of British television’s best-known entertainment programmes. Our company history records the appearance as the point when Derek and Mollie began taking their turkey expertise onto television. Mollie had already been demonstrating turkey preparation and cooking techniques to the press and at events, while Derek brought his experience as a turkey breeder and producer. Their appearance gave those skills a national television platform. A later account in The Independent also traces their television appearances to the recognition Mollie gained from her turkey-cooking demonstrations. The surviving sources confirm the 1981 appearance and turkey-trussing demonstration, but do not substantiate broader claims that the programme itself changed public attitudes towards farming or turkey preparation.
