During the incident known as the Treaty of Purandar, Sambhaji, the ruler of the Maratha Empire, was forced to sign a treaty with the Mughal Empire under Aurangzeb's reign. The treaty was signed after a series of military defeats suffered by the Marathas against the Mughals. The Treaty of Purandar led to the Marathas ceding 23 forts to the Mughals, including the strategically important fort of Purandar. In return, Sambhaji was granted territories in the Konkan region. Moreover, the Marathas were required to provide military assistance to the Mughals whenever needed. The treaty not only weakened the Maratha Empire but also established the Mughal Empire's dominance in the Deccan region. This event marked a significant shift in power dynamics in India during that period. It also highlighted the Mughals' attempts to expand their influence over the various regions of the subcontinent. Despite the treaty, hostilities between the Marathas and the Mughals continued, eventually leading to the resumption of conflicts between the two powers. #TreatyofPurandar #MarathaEmpire #MughalEmpire #PowerDynamics #DeccanRegion #HistoricalEvent #IndiaHistory
