Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch worldwide, introducing a hybrid console designed for both home and portable play. The system launched simultaneously in Japan, North America, Europe, and other regions, marking one of Nintendo’s first coordinated global hardware debuts. The Nintendo Switch launched at a retail price of $299.99 in the United States and ¥29,980 in Japan. The console featured a tablet-style main unit with a 6.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and detachable Joy-Con controllers that could be used individually or attached to a grip accessory. Powered by a custom NVIDIA Tegra processor, the system supported both handheld mode and docked mode, allowing output to a television via the included dock. The Switch used game cartridges and offered digital downloads through the Nintendo eShop. A key launch title on 03/03/2017 was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was released simultaneously for the Switch and Wii U. Other launch-window titles included 1-2-Switch, Super Bomberman R, and Just Dance 2017. Nintendo reported that the Switch sold approximately 2.74 million units worldwide in its first month on the market. Over its lifespan, the Nintendo Switch became one of the company’s best-selling consoles, surpassing 125 million units sold globally. The 03/03/2017 launch established Nintendo’s hybrid console format as a central part of its hardware strategy during the late 2010s. #NintendoSwitch #Nintendo #VideoGameHistory #2017 #BreathOfTheWild
