Gordon Ramsay Academy Opens Cookery School in Woking, Surrey

In September 2021, the Gordon Ramsay Academy officially opened in Woking, Surrey, marking Gordon Ramsay’s first dedicated cookery school. The academy was established to offer courses for a wide range of participants, from beginners learning basic kitchen skills to individuals pursuing professional culinary qualifications. The site occupies a purpose built facility that previously housed the Tante Marie Culinary Academy, one of the United Kingdom’s long running cookery schools, before its closure earlier in 2021. The building was designed as a dual purpose hospitality and education space. The Gordon Ramsay Academy occupies the top floor, while the ground floor houses a Street Burger restaurant, which became the first Gordon Ramsay Street Burger location outside London. The Woking site formed part of Ramsay’s broader expansion of casual dining concepts beyond the capital, while also creating a practical environment for culinary learning linked to an operating restaurant. The academy includes four teaching kitchens equipped for hands on training, alongside a large demonstration kitchen used for masterclasses, guest chef sessions, and live demonstrations. Courses cover short recreational classes, skills workshops, and longer professional programs. The facility also features a cookbook library and a lounge area where participants can relax between sessions. The design focuses on small group learning with structured instruction led by professional chefs and culinary educators. The opening followed announcements earlier in 2021 confirming Ramsay’s plans to create an accessible cookery school outside London. The Woking location was selected due to its proximity to central London and existing culinary training infrastructure from the former Tante Marie site, allowing the academy to begin operations in September 2021.
